Roseberry Topping - Local landmark that can be seen from a number of the clubs in the League.

 

The inauguration of this league was in 1936.

Representatives from Guisborough, Nunthorpe, Redcar Borough Park, Redcar Zetland Park and Saltburn met in the Bowling Pavilion at Saltburn on Monday 6th April.

Mr. Albert Million of Borough Park was elected Chairman, and Mr. Fred Longstaff of Saltburn was elected Secretary, of this meeting of Clubs interested in a Bowls League using the rules of the English Bowling Association.

The Chairman proposed a motion :- A LEAGUE, TO BE CALLED 'THE NORTH YORKSHIRE E.B.A. LEAGUE' be formed.

This motion was carried and "OUR LEAGUE WAS BORN".

The following Officers were appointed :-

        President - Mr Albert Million (Borough Park)

        Vice President - Mr Herbert Frankland (Nunthorpe)

        Treasurer - Mr Marwood Smith (Saltburn)

        Secretary - Mr Fred Longstaff (Saltburn)

These Officers, along with 2 members from each Club in the League to form a League Committee.

League matches were to start week 9th May.

Saltburn B.C. was chosen as the League H.Q.

Sadly Zetland Park has gone, but the League goes on.
